As y2k fashion makes its comeback, we must ask: have we truly changed as a society?

Nostalgia sells, but it also comes with baggage.

In this article, I explored how the the defining trends of Y2K culture became inextricably linked with impossibly narrow beauty standards, disordered eating and ‘fatphobia’. 

I wove in my own reflections on growing up in the era of ultra-low-rise jeans and unattainable beauty standards, using that as a gateway to discuss broader cultural impacts. This resonated especially with the female millennial audience, with the post garnering over 600 impressions on LinkedIn as well as several women reaching out personally upon reading the article to express their shared experience. 

This article naturally introduced wellness concepts, from body neutrality to mindful fashion choices. There was opportunity to incorporate brands – such as inclusive fashion lines, wellness brands and mental health resources – as part of the solution, but due to formatting limitations this was not possible.
